What End-of-Service Gratuity Is
End-of-service gratuity is a statutory payment that many UAE private sector employees receive when employment ends after at least one year of continuous service. It is separate from final salary, unused annual leave, notice pay, and any other contractual benefits. The amount is normally calculated from basic salary rather than total monthly compensation, so allowances such as housing, transport, schooling, or bonuses are not included unless a contract or settlement says otherwise.
Under the standard formula, eligible service in the first five completed years earns gratuity at 21 days of basic wage for each year. Service beyond five years earns 30 days of basic wage for each additional completed year, with proportional payment for a final partial year. UAE law also limits the gratuity amount so it does not exceed two years of basic salary. This calculator applies those rules as an estimate and shows each period so employees and employers can review the logic before seeking formal advice.
